RIP - Fair and Square - Champion Riding Horse, Great Yorkshire Horse Show

So much has happened since my last diary entry. Firstly to get the bad news out of the way. We very sadly had to have Fair and Square put down on 3rd April as he had a degenerative arthritic neck condition which was making him very uncomfortable and was progressing very quickly. Rex as he was known to us was owned by the Welbys and came to us in the winter of 2011. We had a great season with him last year and one of his highlights was being champion riding horse at the Great Yorkshire show and then being Intermediate champion at the BSHA Championships. He then went on to be 4th at HOYS in the Riding Horses. He was sweetest horse to have on the yard and always said please and thank you and really was the most charming character. He was also the most beautiful horse. He is sorely missed by all of us - we loved him very dearly. The Welbys have been the most fantastic owners and the love, care and welfare of their horses was always paramount to them and they were so appreciative of everything we did for Sexy Rexy.

Thriller has been progressing well with Fiona Lintott his owner and was going to come out at the beginning of the season but she has been incredibly busy with her work schedule as a Fashion Editor for Conde Naste so we have decided to bring him out later in the season when her work schedule is less hectic. He will be making his appearance and we are all looking forward to it!

Heather and Consult Ramiro - 2nd Elementary Restricted Winter championships

Heather and Curtis excelled themselves at the National Winter Dressage Championships and came 2nd in the Elementary Restricted class on a score of 68..65% just behind the leaders. A brilliant result!. One very proud Mama here!! He is now having a bit of a break whilst Heather has to do a work placement for three months for her university course. Initially he will have some time off chilling out in the field and then he will start back into general fitness work.

Cambridge is still progressing well with his training at home and is now getting match fit and hopefully will come out soon and compete at Medium level with Holly. She is busy mastering the changes with him. He has such a great brain and really enjoys his work. We are really looking forward to getting out to competitions soon!

Gossip Girl - for Sale

Gossip Girl aka Coco is really improving. She is developing her balance and strength and is now starting to come up in front and really carry her weight behind. She is the most lovely athletic mover, has fantastic limbs and is a really easy person all round! She has also done some jumping and has taken to that extremely well. Our plan now is to do a few competitions with her - she is on the market so if anyone is interested in her please feel free to contact me to have a chat. She measures 15.1hh and will not grow over the 15.2hh mark so will make an ideal intermediate, small riding horse, dressage horse, eventer! She could turn her hand to many jobs.

We have had a new arrival in Music Man who is a 5 year old large riding horse belonging to Virginia Russell Wood. His sire is the eventing stallion All the Jazz who was ridden by William Fox Pitt and is out of Virginia's show hack brood mare. He was lightly broken in last year. He has settled in well and has a lot of work to catch up on as he has missed out on all his four year old year so I am quietly bringing him on and slowly getting him fit hacking him round the fields and gallops to strengthen him up. I will be doing this for six weeks as he really is quite unfit. The plan was to show him in riding horse classes and part bred arab classes but this may be on hold until later on whilst he strengthens up. He is a really beautiful horse and has a trot to die for!

Daldorn Lara's Theme - 2nd Novice Riding horse Royal Windsor
Daldorn Lara's Theme (3 weeks previous) 1st and Reserve Champion Novice Grass Roots Show

Daldorn Lara's Theme has continued her great progress and we took her to the Grass Roots Show at Addington on 20th April for the Novice riding Horse class. She behaved immaculately, was lovely and forward and was not green to ride in the ring at all! I was very proud of her and she was excellent with the judge as well. She came first and went on to be Reserve Champion Novice. This was her first ever show and she coped with everything admirably. I decided not to take her out again until Windsor as she still needed to furnish more and put on weight. It was rather a brave decision as Windsor is a big ask for any baby novice but especially one who has not even seen any razzmatazz and I must say I was concerned that it would be all too much for her to take in. However she proved me wrong! She took everything in her stride and was 2nd in the Novice riding horse class. The horse that won was Diamonds are Forever who eventually went on to be champion! Again she behaved beautifully in the class if a little flat - I had given her plenty of work as I was not sure how she would react to everything. In the Riding Horse Championship we decided to really go for it - I had nothing to lose! She rose to the occasion and really lifted her game and for the first time we really galloped. She has the most amazing canter and can really open out. I am quietly very excited about her and I think as she matures she will be quite something! I adore her!

D'Astaire (Fredley!)
D'Astaire - 1st and Reserve champion riding horse Spring Horizons Show

D'Astaire (Fred) has also been out and about and went to the Spring Horizons Show which was in Baltic conditions. Fortunately we were indoors so the biting wind did not quite defeat us. Fred was delighted to be at a party again and won his class and then went on to be Reserve champion and got his RIHS ticket. I also took him to BSPS Area 5 at Arena UK where he came 3rd. He was a little excited on the go round but settled beautifully for the ride judge who came back and said how much he enjoyed riding him. Hopefully now Averil has moved and has sorted out her work she can ride Fred at his next shows. I am not complaining though as I love riding him!

Holly on Westerdale Regal Max

Holly has had a couple of rides on Westerdale Regal Max in the Intermediate Show Hunter classes. She was 2nd at Cheshire Premier Show at Somerford Park. He went foot perfect for her and looked a picture. She loves this horse and he has now qualified for the RIHS as he won at Ayr with Samantha Elliot. We have enjoyed our days showing with Jerome Harforth - they are such a friendly team!

Whalton Razzamatazz - Champion Hack BSPS Area 5 - qualified RIHS

I am delighted with my pupils success - Katie Morton and Oldcourt Charlotte have now qualified for the RIHS in the Open 14.2hh Show Pony section and the Pretty Polly Home Produced section and they went to BSPS Area 5 and did their first RIHS Part Bred Arab class where they finished second so a great result. Hopefully they will be able to get that ticket on their next outing! Vicky Nicholls and Aristocrat (who I sold to them for her Christmas present) went to the Grass Roots show and won the Amateur Hack class and went on to be champion and then won the part bred/arab class as well and then on their next outing to BSPS Area 7 at Bury Farm won the Part bred Arab class and got their first RIHS ticket! They have really got the bit between their teeth and are going to do the small hack classes as well. He is such a lovely small horse and has the most fantastic conformation and seems to take everything in his stride. He is by Kilvington Scoundrel. Another two of my clients have been showing with great success - Alex on Kite has qualified for Equifest and Ponies UK with his Section B and is off this weekend to do Search for a Star at Onley as is Julie with her lovely riding horse Oliver. They were 2nd at the Showing Register Show at Rugby last weekend - this is a really lovely dun large riding horse who is a beautiful ride as well as being extremely striking to look at - I am hoping for great things from them as the picture is really lovely! He could certainly hold his own in open riding horse classes - she may have to be careful as I am always threatening to steal him!!I am lucky to have some great new pupils coming along and I am looking forward to getting them going - I love watching them improve and gaining in confidence and also getting success in the ring.
