Wednesday, 3rd June 2010

June kicked off with Holly's 20th birthday on 2nd June so big celebrations in the pub were had by all. This was closely followed by Pips birthday celebrations a few days later in the pub which were even rowdier and there were quite a few sore heads the next day!

Bronze Star, qualified RIHS & HOYS in only two outings!

Bridgit (Bronze Star) has now officially started her ridden showing career and kicked off at Midland Counties where she won the RIHS small hack qualifier and then went on to be Champion. A week later she went to Derbyshire Showing Festival and won the HOYS small hack qualifier. This all happened after she had only been back in work after 10 days so I was absolutely delighted with her performance and temperament. She will be going to a couple more shows before the Royal International. I now know what it feels like to be an owner - it was all very exciting and I am a very proud Mummy!

Jenson (Man of Quality) competing at Lincoln - all grown up now!

Jenson (Man of Quality) went to Midland Counties to do the Winnergy Sport Horse qualifier and he came third and was the highest placed four year old. He has to compete against 4, 5 and 6 year olds. Only the top horse qualifies and I do think this is a shame as the older horses are always going to be more established than their younger rivals and will have a certain edge over them. He also competed in the 4 year old Hunter class at Three Counties where he was 4th and then a week later went to Lincoln for the same class and came 5th. As always he was very well behaved and gave the judges a very good ride so Ruth his owner and I were absolutely delighted with his progress. He is a big horse and each week he is maturing and growing more and more into his frame and is really developing his strength now. I keep Jenson on Blue Chip Original and hopefully you will all agree he looks a picture.

Hannah (Marguerite Lodge) went to Derbyshire Festival with me for the HOYS Large Riding Horse qualifier where she was 2nd to Sirius and went on to be Reserve Champion. This was her first open class. Steph rode her at Three Counties Show where she was 2nd and then a few days later was 2nd again to my old riding horse Broadstone Dolce Vita (under Amy Underwood) who went on to be Champion riding horse. Hannah is such an elegant mover and gives such a comfortable ride - we were all thrilled with her and hopefully it will not be too long before she gets that elusive HOYS ticket with Steph! It was great to see Amy and Dolce Vita (Dee) do so well at Lincoln - they really suit each other and put in a very established performance.

Daisy (Shybont Navaho Girl) owned by Teresa Waters is now back on the show circuit and I rode her at Midland counties where she went beautifully and came 2nd in a huge HOYS qualifier. She is a great horse to produce as she needs minimal working in and really seems to love her job. She showed herself off again at the Three Counties Show and this time she was overall Champion Coloured - a great result! She is now staying with me for a month whilst we do a couple more shows and Teresa takes a well earned holiday with her husband Bruce for one week. I will be left with a large list of instructions and no doubt emails will be flying my way to check on her progress!!!

Andiamo - competing for the 1st time at 3 Counties

I have also taken on a new Small Hunter ride owned by Jan Bullock called Andiamo. He is a 5 year old by one of our old Broadstone stallions Amerigo Vespucci. The old Broadstone ones still keep popping up which is great. This chap went to Three Counties for his first show and came a creditable 6th despite being a little on the green side. Jan is now doing lots of homework at home with him and he will be coming out in August. He needs to lose some weight and he is now on a rigorous diet and is busy doing all of his keep fit classes! Jan has faithfully informed me that his girth is going up tighter all the time. He is now fed on Saracen's Shape Up mix which is specifically formulated for those good doers. I also keep Bridgit on this mix as she also likes her tummy!

Millie (Buriana Cashel) owned by Eileen Jenkin has now been back in work for a month and is really going beautifully now. Her first show will be the Festival of the Horse which I know is a big ask for a four year old but I am reasonably confident that she will cope with all of this. She was successfully shown in hand so has already seen quite a few sights and sounds so hopefully this will bode well for her ridden career.

Lardizabala competing at Lincoln County - he loves his parties!

Larry (Lardizabala) owned by Alan Lintott came to be at the end of May to be sold. When he first arrived he was rather on the porky side so he also has had to go on a slim fast diet and has also benefited from Saracen's Shape Up diet. We did the normal MOT on him which is standard for any new horse that comes to the yard - teeth (Mark Slingsby), back (Ellen Stanwell - chiropractor) and a massage after this by Annabelle Galt. He went to East of England where he was third and then went on to be third at Lincoln County. He is a fantastic horse to produce because like Daisy he needs minimal working in and loves the big occasions. He was quite happy to work in at Lincoln amongst the horse and carriages - most hacks have a complete hairy canary over anything like this so it was a really refreshing change to relish riding him in the ring with all the atmosphere. He really rose to the occasion and gave me a fabulous ride. He has now been sold and I would like to wish his new owner Susan all the success in the world with him.

Sam and Kate have been continuing to make excellent progress and a lesson with Rhett Bird is now imminent followed by more competitons.

Bossy Bibs

I have been lucky enough to now be supported by Bossy Bibs who have provided my horses with their bibs to stop their shoulders rubbing. They seem to be the only ones that really work and they are hard wearing and come in a range of colours and are easy to wash. They have provided me with three new bibs from their new manufacturer and I absolutely love them - a big thank you Mia! I originally bought two from them for Hannah and Jenson as they have really big frames and shoulders and as soon as they started wearing these bibs the bald patches on their shoulders soon disappeared.

Holly and I went over to see Sandrose Silk and her filly foal by Moviestar which is called Fleur owned by Anne Taylor. They are going to be shown at the Festival of the Horse in the sport horse class. Sassy has now been trimmed up together with Fleur who was excellent to handle and we clipped her jaw and ears with the little clippers and she proved to be very brave and well behaved. Anne has bred many successful horses in all spheres and they have all gone on to be successful including at the Olympics in eventing! She showed me a really nice three year old chestnut gelding by Dolphin Supreme which is for sale which should make a lovely show horse.

Absorbine, one of my lovely sponsors

Teaching is also busy at this time of the year when everyone wants a tune up before shows. I have also done some makeovers as well and this has all been helped by my lovely sponsored Absorbine products. Quite often my clients go away with a goody bag of products to try!
