Ellen Stanwell

Hannah (Marguerite Lodge) a large riding horse belonging to Steph and Mo Haslam arrived back home again two weeks ago. If you remember she and Steph were part of the Your Horse Live showing demonstration in October. She has just a few weeks to shape up for her competitions. As with all horses arriving on the yard, she has had her back checked by Ellen Stanwell. She has also been massaged after this by Annabelle Galt to loosen off any tense and tight muscles. Fortunately this time it is more of an MOT for her as we had her pretty well sorted when she left us in November. Carl Wain my farrier has made a very good job of her feet (she had over the last few shoeings just become rather long in the toes which Carl will gradually rectify over the next three visits) Finally Mark Slingsby the dentist is booked in for her six monthly treatment. After that she is ready to rock and roll!! She will be aimed at some of the early shows as a Novice riding horse initially and then go on to her qualifiers a little later on.

Jenson (Man of Quality)

Jenson is coming on well and is due to go to Addington for another dressage competition this coming weekend. Ruth Serrell his owner came along for a visit two weeks ago and will hopefully be able to see him in action on Saturday. It is always interesting to compare photographs as the weeks go by to see how much they have changed and muscled up.

Bridgit again is chomping at the bit waiting for her first shows. She had a bit of a taster last week when Your Horse visited the yard to do a showing feature on us and she was the cover girl - she quite fancied herself for that job. Not being at all spooky she is ideal when big umbrellas and lights are used in close proximity! The article should come out in the next month or so. Jenson and Hannah were also used so we were able to use a hack, riding horse and a hunter as demo horses.

Little Millie is coming on nicely and has been hacking out on her own round the village - having also to jump over water filled ditches and walk through large areas of water to get to the road! The joys of British weather.

Sam and Kate are going great guns and Kate is really starting to develop her feel and natural independent seat. Her straightness is hardly an issue now and the pair of them are really clicking together.

Holly and I have been to visit Clare Nicholls who is a registered osteopath this Monday. We try to keep ourselves maintained fairly regularly - again if we are straight it helps the horses. I also have just started going to Pilates once a week - I have had problems with lower back pain and have had an operation to help with this so developing core strength with the help of Pilates will be very beneficial - hopefully! Holly had become a member of the gym so goes off there three times a week together with her ballroom dancing two nights a week - she is one fit bunny!

I for one have enjoyed the last two days - sunshine!!!! - a very rare sight in the UK! Bring it on!!!
